VoIP vs. Traditional Landline
At Truestream, we’re proud to offer voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services to keep you connected. But if you’ve never used VoIP before, you may be wondering what it is and how it differs from a traditional landline phone.
Voice Over Internet Protocol
VoIP- Uses our reliable, fiber internet connection.
- Provides a more secure connection.
- There is no physical exchange of sound waves through the wire.
- Could use an internet-enabled device, like a laptop, cell phone, or tablet to make calls.
- If you chose a landline phone, it plugs directly into the router, no need for a phone jack in the wall.
Traditional Copper Landline
Plain Old Telephone System (POTS)- Uses old analog twist and pair copper wiring.
- Calls are routed through the public switched telephone network (PSTN), leaving calls vulnerable to eavesdropping or interception.
- Requires a physical exchange of sound waves through wires, potentially causing delays.
- Cannot make calls through internet-enabled devices.
- Requires a phone jack to be installed where you would like the phone.
